  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Substitute with gluten-free flour if needed.
  • 2 cups milk Whole milk recommended, but any milk can be used.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 2 teaspoons ranch seasoning powder Can make your own if unavailable.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder Adjust for spice level.
  • 8 ounces white cheddar cheese, shredded Feel free to use Monterey Jack or pepper jack.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven or air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  • Arrange the frozen fries in a single layer on a baking sheet or in your air fryer basket.
  • Bake the fries until golden brown, following the package instructions.

Making the cheese sauce

  • While the fries are baking, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Whisk in flour and cook for about 2 minutes until it begins to bubble.
  • Gradually add milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
  • Stir in salt, ground white pepper, ranch seasoning, and half of the cayenne powder.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low and cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the shredded white cheddar cheese until it melts and becomes creamy.

Assembly

  • Pour the cheese sauce over the cooked fries and serve warm.

Notes

For extra crispiness, try double frying the frozen fries before adding the sauce. Pair the fries with crispy bacon bits or jalapeños for added flavor.
