Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 cups potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Oil for cooking

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Heat a small amount of oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they're soft and fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef, cooking until it's browned, and drain any excess fat.
  • Season the beef mixture with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning to enhance the flavor.
  • In a greased casserole dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom.
  • Spread the cooked beef mixture over the first layer, then top with the remaining potato slices.
  • Pour the beef broth evenly over the entire dish to keep everything moist as it cooks.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Remove the foil, sprinkle the shredded cheese on top, and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving to allow the casserole to set for easier slices.

Notes

Feel free to get creative with the cheese choice; it can totally change the flavor profile. Serve with a simple side salad or crusty bread. For a twist, add a dollop of sour cream or fresh herbs before serving.
